Maui's Pounamu Taiaha

It is told and passed down through our ancestors, that centuries ago, during the creation of the world a warrior existed. Maui…

Descendent from the gods, a hawaiikan born man pulled a great fish from the sea which became Aotearoa, brought fire to the world, and slowed the down sun.

There are many legends, myths and stories about Maui, but here’s one that you don't know….

Maui’s pounamu (greenstone) taiaha (weapon).

The untold story is that Maui carved a taiaha from sacred greenstone that was blessed by the gods, mother earth and RA (sun god).Maui used this taiaha through all his journeys and it is said to be the source of his powers.

The power of this taiaha grew too extreme and eventually took the life of Maui. Before Maui passed away he was quick enough to split the taiaha in half and hide the pieces in separate secret locations around Aotearoa. Out of man kinds reach.
Mauis spirit remains in the taiaha along with all its good and evil powers.

It is said that no one can tame its powers, and no one is pure enough to release the good over evil that's contained in it.
It gives the holder the strength of the gods, immortality, the ability to control: time, gravity, mother nature and eventually wisdom and knowledge of all things.

Till this day the locations of this powerful taiaha are unknown.
